Gill Barrett is an experienced Gloucestershire based artist, with her main artistic inspiration being flowers and nature. 

Gill’s favourite painting medium is encaustic wax, due to its unpredictability and versatility in achieving tactile texture and a glossy sheen when polished. She also enjoys using vibrant alcohol inks to create her signature organic and wispy flowers. Using the ancient methods of encaustic wax painting requires melting pigmented beeswax and painting it on a wooden surface, before fusing it with a blowtorch – truly painting with fire! Shellac and waxy pigments are manipulated with flames to create unique and colourful art. Many of her paintings have jewel like layers of colours embedded throughout.

Gill also creates stunning, energetic and unique hand-dyed tissue paper designs using a wide variety of methods, including ancient Japanese Shibori and tie dye techniques, hand painting and using wax resist. She then takes advantage of the textured tissue paper to add texture and colour into her encaustic wax botanical paintings, floralscapes, and collages.

Gill is represented by a local art gallery and licenses several of her designs to card companies. She has also designed EP covers for the soprano duet, Fair Oriana.

Gill loves to learn and is constantly applying any recent knowledge and techniques to other mediums, processes and products, to constantly extend the boundaries of her art journey.
